Peterborough United are being linked with Stevenage’s 18 year old midfielder/striker Ben Kennedy.

Kennedy, a product of the Stevenage youth setup, featured 17 times for his club in the 2014/15 season, scoring 4 goals. Following a number of spirited performances, Kennedy was called up to the Northern Ireland youth setup. His debut came against Oxford United in January 2015, but he played more for the youth team at Broadhall Way, where he scored 14 goals in-between August and January. Kennedy is naturally a midfielder, but has featured further up the pitch for Boro, showing an element of versatility and willingness to do whatever his manager asks of him – another aspect that fits in with the Posh philosophy.

Kennedy’s most notable performances for Stevenage came in a dramatic away win against Hartlepool, where Kennedy bagged a brace, as well as a substitute appearance against Southend, where he came on, scored, got an assist and won a penalty in the 22 minutes that he was on the pitch!

Kennedy’s displays hasn’t gone unnoticed by the big teams of English football, and Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with him in recent times. But it would seem sensible for Kennedy to continue his progression at a steady pace, rather than going straight to the Premier League and being shipped out on loan. Posh have a history of developing players and selling them on to bigger clubs.

However it wouldn’t be a disaster if Kennedy did move to a Premier League club, as there is still the possibility of a loan for the youngster. DMAC and Robbo have been talking up the loan system in recent times, so it is expected that the club will be dipping into the loan market this summer. So, if Kennedy got a big move, you’d expect him to become available almost immediately for a potential loan spell.

Incidentally, Dave Robertson and Grant McCann followed Kennedy on Twitter in the past few weeks, which further fuels the speculation that he could be a Posh player by the end of the summer. You could argue that it’s just Twitter, but Robbo and McCann both followed Jack Collison on Twitter – who was later announced as a Peterborough United player.

So, will Kennedy swap the Lamex for the ABAX? Only time will tell… All transfer speculation and confirmed signings can be found right her on vital posh as soon as they happen!

Could our second rumour in the ‘Posh Weekly’ also be true? Time will tell.
