Peterborough United striker Matty Stevens is currently having trials at Yeovil Town.

Striker Matty Stevens is one of a handful of Posh players remaining on the transfer list but he is attempting to bag a contract at League Two side Yeovil Town.

The 19-year-old has been training with the Glovers and played in the second-half of their 2-1 win over Weymouth on Tuesday evening.

Whether Stevens would depart on loan or for a small fee is uncertain for the player Posh picked up last summer from Barnet. He signed a three-year deal at the ABAX Stadium but he was described as being “one for the future”!

After making just two substitute appearances for Posh, he spent the second-half of last season on loan at Sligo Rovers, making ten substitute appearances scoring one goal.

Is he surplus to requirements or is he still “one for the future”?

Maybe it`s a make-or-break season for him to prove his ability in League Two and if he does that, he could be offered an extended contract. There again, maybe Posh boss Grant McCann has seen enough of him to believe he won`t make the grade at Posh and it`s best for everyone concerned to allow the teenager to continue his career elsewhere.

Stevens isn`t the only player on trial at the side that finished just four points away from relegation out of the Football League last season. There were nine unnamed players present at the Weymouth match, with former Plymouth Argyle striker Louis Rooney, former Exeter City midfielder Tom McCready and former Harrogate Town goalkeeper Peter Crook believed to be some of the other trialists.
