What does the month of March hold in store for Peterborough United?

We`re already one match into March which didn`t go to plan but we still have another 7 games to play this month including a Cup Final at Wembley.

Posh face matches this month against Sheffield United (a), Crewe Alexandra (h), Bristol City (h), MK Dons (a), Rotherham United (h), Preston North End (a) and finishing off with a Wembley trip where we play League Two leaders Chesterfield.

March is a massive month as we look to cement out place in the play-offs. It will be yet another challenging month as we face teams fighting for their life at the bottom of the League while also facing two play-off rivals!

Sheffield United (a)

First up we go to Bramall Lane to face a team in automatic promotion form.

The Blades form has changed dramatically since Nigel Clough took over the managers seat and could find themselves as late contenders for a play-off place.

Nigel Clough watched on at London Road as the team he was about to take over parked the bus to grind out a goalless draw. There is no chance of that happening again with the form the Blades are in and Posh desperate to continue to pick up points to stay in the play-off places.

Based on current form I can`t see Posh getting much out of this match. Maybe we should “park the bus” but there again we`re Peterborough United, we never do that!

Crewe Alexandra (h)

Crewe pulled off one of the shocks of the season went hosting a rampant Posh who had won four out of their first five League matches while they only had four points from five games. Posh had to claw themselves back into the games after finding themselves two goals down after just 20 minutes.

I would certainly hope that we don`t suffer the safe fate this time around and claim all three points.

Bristol City (h)

The Robins have two deadly strikers in Sam Baldock and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who have 18 and 17 goals respectively but they also concede a lot of goals.

Posh had a comfortable 3-0 victory at Ashton Gate earlier in the season but have finally started to find a bit of form. A recent 3-1 victory at Leyton Orient being the pick of the results.

MK Dons (a)

Karl Robinson is having another failed season in League One as the Dons look likely to miss out on a play-off place again.

They are still within touching distance of Posh though but their form has fluctuated throughout the season there are no signs that they will make a charge to the play-offs.

Posh beat the Dons 2-1 at London Road earlier in the season and it would be good to do the double over the team with no history.

Rotherham United (h)

Love him or loathe him, Steve Evans has done a fantastic job at Rotherham United. We tipped the Millers to be the surprise package this season and they certainly haven`t disappointed.

Barring a devastating loss of form, the Millers will make the play-offs with ease and could even challenge for an automatic promotion place.

Posh snatched all three points in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. The match was a tight affair but a Grant McCann penalty was enough to win it for Posh. A similar result would be excellent against a fellow play-off team.

Preston North End (a)

This will be an interesting game. Not because the Lilywhites are chasing a play-off place but because it is Darren Ferguson`s former team.

Posh produced one of their best performances of the season when Preston rolled up at London Road but a polished performance from Posh and first-half goals from Tyrone Barnett and Grant McCann earned Posh the points.

Posh will need to re-produce that performance, especially that of the first half, if they are to do the double over Fergie`s old team.

Chesterfield (JPT Final – Wembley)

Hopefully this will be the first of two Wembley appearances for Posh this season.

Posh are unbeaten at Wembley and although they face League Two opposition, Chesterfield are top of their league and will be very dangerous opposition.

Chesterfield have made the final of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy before but it will be the first time Posh have made it to the final.

It will be an excellent day out for both sets of fans but for one set, it will be extra special. Let`s hope it ends up being extra special for Posh supporters.

Monthly hopes…

Points are the aim at the moment as we look to cement our place in the play-offs. March is always a big month and one in which could define our season.

Posh face three massive matches towards the end of the month as they face two matches against play-off rivals and then take a trip to Wembley for the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.

Good results and good performances will go a long way to attracting people back next season as it`ll soon be season ticket time again.

Relegation from the Championship last season put a real downer on the club but the sale of Dwight Gayle at least meant it didn`t hit us as hard financially as it would have. It also means Posh need to get back to the Championship otherwise we could see the break-up of the squad as we look to trim the wage bill to ensure we remain within the Financial Fair Play rules.

There are 18 points remaining to be played for this month. I would like us to get a return in the double figures and given the games we should be aiming for a minimum of 11 points.
