The first Vital Posh Man of the Match Poll of the season is now up and running for the Sky Bet League One match between Rochdale and Peterborough United.

Kyle Vassell v Rochdale

Posh were expecting a tricky match against a side that gained promotion last season and they certainly got it.

The loss of Britt Assombalonga only days before the match also threw the team selection up in the air as Kyle Vassell and Conor Washington hadn`t had any match time together in pre-season!

The first half was an entertaining one with both sides creating chances even if Rochdale flooded the midfield and only played one man up top.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing tormented the home side and created numerous chances, one of which hit the bar while Jon Taylor, on the other flank, also though he`d scored before the keeper got his fingers to the ball.

It wasn`t all one way as new Posh number one Ben Alnwick had to be alert and made a few good saves to keep Posh in it by the break.

The second half was less entertaining but it was Posh that made the vital breakthrough when Conor Washington found Kyle Vassell free to slot the ball in to the bottom corner of the net.

Posh had to battle well towards the end of the match to keep hold of the lead and they had to do it with a few players playing with an injury. Gaby Zakuani picked up an injury just before Posh made their final substitution and found it hard to run while left-back Kgosi Ntlhe also suffered a knock to his knee and was suffering from cramp. Add to the stitches Jack Baldwin received in the second half and you can appreciate how tough it was to preserve their lead but that is exactly what they managed to achieve.

What did you think to the overall performances of the players and manager Darren Ferguson?

Rate the players below and the player with the best rating will win the Man of the Match.

The poll is open until noon on Thursday [14th August].
