It was Steve Evans` first match in charge of Posh and although the match wasn`t the most entertaining of affairs, the result was far more important and he got off to a flying start with a four-one victory.

Posh started off with a 4-4-2 formation with the usual back four with Chris Forrester and Leo Da Silva Lopes in central midfield. Joe Ward and Marcus Maddison were the wide men who switched wings regularly throughout the match. Up front, Jack Marriott was partnered by Cardiff City loanee Omar Bogle.

The defence looked strong and did the simple things well while both fullbacks excelled. Forrester and Da Silva Lopes looked like they could make a good pairing with Forrester getting back to the form we know he is capable of while Leo has the energy to get up and down the pitch.

Bogle was again a disappointment though. He did well for a short period in the match but that was about it and there doesn`t seem to be any connection between Bogle and Marriott!

Bogle wasn`t the only one to fail to impress the Posh fans as goalkeeper Jonathan Bond looked dodgy on occasion and was lucky not to concede more than one goal. Will Conor O`Malley ever get another chance this season?

Former boss Grant McCann was often criticised for his substitutions but Evans got it spot on. Michael Doughty, Danny Lloyd and Jermaine Anderson were brought on in a 13 minute spell in the second half and with it a change in formation to 4-2-3-1. The change strengthened Posh in the latter stages and in fact gave Posh more of an attacking threat which culminated in two further goals both of which were supplied by one of the subs. Lloyd set up Jack Marriott`s first goal before an exquisite cross by Anderson allowed Marriott to nod home his second of the game three minutes later.

It was also good to see some passion on the sidelines instead of McCann`s calm and quiet approach. That passion also got Evans a talking to during the match from the referee but the official was rather erratic with his decision-making!

Overall though, it was a good day at the office and one which bodes well for the remaining games.

The victory saw Posh leapfrog the Addicks into seventh place and are now just one point from the play-offs with a game in hand over Plymouth Argyle who are in 6th. They also have two games in hand on Scunthorpe United who sit in 5th place and are five points ahead of Posh.
