Peterborough United striker Britt Assombalonga looks set to sign for Nottingham Forest.

Britt Assombalonga celebrating v MK Dons

Within the space of two days, Posh could`ve sold two of their five strikers but the latest one will hit the club and fans harder.

Britt Assombalonga may have only been at the club for a year but he was top scorer last season with 33 goals. He even played in Posh`s last pre-season game last night so negotiations must`ve progressed at a rate of knots as Assombalonga is rumoured to be having a medical at the City Ground this afternoon.

Many Posh fans thought we may struggle to hold on to the striker but with just three days before the season kicks off, the timing of the sale couldn`t be any worse. Posh will surely have a back-up plan as they`ve had plenty of teams interested in the player but no one had matched the asking price?until now!

Darragh MacAnthony even confessed the other day: “I can`t promise there won`t be a mega multi-million pound sale of any of our players as let`s not be naive in the current world of football. And let`s not forget the damage inflicted upon our dressing room in the past when we tried our best to postpone that inevitable sale of a top asset.”

From that, it would appear that he was expecting a bid so unless Assombalonga suddenly suffers from bad eye sight, expect confirmation of the sale within the next 24 hours.

If Britt goes, it will leave just Conor Washington, Kyle Vassell and Tyrone Barnett as the only strikers at the club and Barnett is on the transfer list. Washington and Vassell are too similar a player so it would be very unlikely that they would partner each other and although Barnett has looked lively in pre-season, most Posh fans just want rid of him.

Have Posh got someone lined up already? Would Stevie May come back in to the reckoning or is he, like Vassell, too similar to Washington?

Whatever happens, if the rumoured £5.5 million bid rising to £8 million is true, it would be stupid for Posh to turn the offer down even if Watford do get about 35% of any profit of the sale.

It would be a massive blow for Posh`s promotion prospects, but we have to continue as a club and hope that the next forward Posh bring in achieves as much as Britt and Dwight Gayle who was sold in similar circumstances last season.
