In what will be a relief to many Posh fans, Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has ruled himself out of the running for the Peterborough United managers job.
Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony was recently asked on twitter: “take it you`re not after Steve Evans”, MacAnthony responded “absolutely not”.
Despite this reply, Evans remains one of the front runners with bookmakers but now Evans, after overseeing his Millers side lose again last night, has finally broken his silence on his position as he said: “I have not spoken to my chairman [Tony Stewart] and don`t know whether Peterborough have made an approach or not; I don`t think they have.
“I have said what the [Posh] chairman has said on social media. I have got a lot of respect for Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry and they know that my project at Rotherham United is far from finished.
“As long as [my chairman] tells me I`m the manager of this football club, I`ll be the manager of this football club.”
Sky Bet has Evans as second favourite for the job with former Stevenage and Preston North End manager Graham Westley remaining the bookies favourite (5/4). Current caretaker boss Grant McCann is third favourite at 7/2 while the person running away with our poll on the right hand side of this page, Brian McDermott, is fourth favourite at 9/1.
It is believed face-to-face interviews with Darragh MacAnthony are to take place this week or next week at the latest meaning McCann will again be in charge of the Posh side for this weekends match against second placed Walsall.
