Last Time Out At London Road

The last time these two sides met at London Road was earlier this season in the second round of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.

A lacklustre display from both sides saw Posh go close early on through efforts from loanee Paul Taylor and Danny Swanson. Grant McCann then fired a volley over the crossbar on 12 minutes after excellent approach play from the lively Taylor down the right.

Posh broke the deadlock on 18 minutes through an unfortunate own goal from Martin TAYLOR. What looked like a poor effort from Paul Taylor saw the Bees keeper made a blunder as he parried the ball straight at the retreating Taylor who saw the ball rebound off him and into the net!

A foul by Mark Little gave the visitors their first sniff at goal as Sam Saunders whipped a free-kick just past the post moments later before Marcelo Trotta headed over on 26 minutes after a good cross from Saunders.

Paul Taylor tested Button a few times after that. Firstly when collecting a throw-in and turning his man on the edge of the area before firing a shot in and then minutes later he had another effort but the goalkeeper was equal to the shot.

Mark Little came close on 52 minutes after a strong burst into the box saw him closing in on the goal but his effort only went into the side-netting.

Taylor was a whisker away from making it 2-0 on 63 minutes after collecting a pass from Assombalonga, the on-loan Ipswich front man firing just past the post.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing made an immediate impact after replacing Danny Kearns on 65 minutes as he ran at the defence and was tripped by Calvet to win a penalty. Grant MCCANN stepped up from the spot and coolly chipped the ball into the net.

That goal should`ve settled the tie as the Bees offered very little going forward but Posh, as usual, were in a generous mood as they let the Bees back into the tie when former Posh midfielder Diagouraga crossed the ball to Ben NUGENT who looped a header over Olejnik and into the back of the net on 78 minutes.

Posh then defended deeper and deeper as the Bees finally came to life. Douglas headed over a set-piece while Olejnik produced a fine stop to deny Saville. Luckily Posh held on for the win.
