Last Time Out at the County Ground

Posh were delayed in their arrival at the County Ground thanks to a busy M25 but it didn`t stop Posh from starting off very well which saw them take the lead through Lee Tomlin in the 17th minute.

Tomlin was partnering Craig Mackail-Smith up front while George Boyd and Chris Whelpdale were tormenting Swindon with their wing play.

An excellent five-man move nearly opened the scoring but Mackail-Smith scuffed his shot but just three minutes later Tomlin had opened the scoring. A brilliant turn and pass from George Boyd allowed Tomlin time and space to fire in the first goal of the game.

The goal sparked the home side into life and Joe Lewis had to be at his best tipping Alan Sheehan`s free-kick around a post. Charlie Austin missed the target twice when clean through following errors by Kelvin Langmead and Adam Clayton, while Swindon keeper Phil Smith blocked Mackail-Smith`s fierce shot after Gaby Zakuani and Whelpdale had set him free.

Grant McCann headed an Andrew Frampton header off the line from a corner. From another poorly-marked set-piece Jon-Paul McGovern twice saw shots blocked.

It was Swindon who enjoyed the better of the second half and had a succession of free-kicks. Vincent Pericard and Sheehan fired wide before Lewis did well to tip another Sheehan free-kick round the post.

Posh couldn`t hold out for a win though after Mark Little upended Matt Ritchie 18 minutes from time allowing Charlie Austin the chance to tie things up.

Boyd went on a couple of runs while Tommy Rowe had a 25 yard shot which was deflected just past a post.

Lewis made another fine free-kick save from Sheehan in the 90th minute as Posh struggled to keep hold of the ball and nearly suffered heartbreak in the fifth minute of four minutes added time when Austin thumped a shot against the outside of the post!
