Craig Mackail-Smith looks like continuing his absence from the first team.

The prolific striker has been sidelined with a hamstring problem for the last two matches and it looks increasingly likely that our top scorer, for the last two seasons, will not be risked up at St James Park, or whatever the Geordie nation deem it to be called these days.

Talking about Craig`s situation to the media ahead of the game, Darren Ferguson has remarked,

‘Hopefully Craig will train and come through okay, but he really has to be 100 per cent ready or I won’t take the risk.

‘There is no point in playing him on Saturday, causing further damage to the hamstring and being without him for six-to-eight weeks.’

Perfectly true! With our limited options up front we don`t need a prolonged absence.
