Peterborough United have lost out to Championship rivals Derby County for the services of Michael Jacobs

The Northampton Town midfielder was a target for Posh and Charlton but the Rams won the race for the 20-year-old midfielder.

Derby have agreed to pay Northampton a compensation fee due to his age.

Jacobs has made 100 league and cup appearances for the Cobblers after coming through their youth academy. He has found the back of the net on 15 occasions with probably the most memorable being his goal at Anfield against Liverpool in the 2010-11 League Cup.

It turns out the reason he chose Derby over Posh and Charlton was not financial or tactical but was simply down to the training facilities!

Jacobs was taken aback by the state-of-the-art training facilities as he said: ‘I had offers from Charlton and Peterborough but as soon as I came to have a look around the facilities at Derby, I knew this was the place for me.

‘You only need to look at the set-up. The facilities are Premier League standard and I liked what the manager had to say.’

Maybe he didn’t like the prospect of ‘going back to school’ to train at Poshs training facilities which adjoins a local school!

Onwards and upwards. Posh will move on with their other targets.
