Peterborough United welcome their first team squad to the start of the pre-season training today.

Within the first week of last season finishing, a meeting was held in the US with the co-owners, boss Steve Evans and Director of Football Barry Fry, which went through the list of players Evans had identified. Since then Fry has been busy transforming the squad trying to move on the fourteen players transfer listed by Posh.

So far, only six players have departed the club alongside Callum Chettle who left at the end of the season when his contract expired. Of those six players, two of which were on the retained list so there are still ten players unwanted by Evans!

According to Tweets by Chairman Darragh MacAnthony, Posh have received bids for all the transfer listed players but obviously, those bids aren’t enough to tempt the club into parting with the players concerned.

The ABAX Stadium club have been more successful in recruiting the players Evans wants with nine new players and at least two more expected to arrive soon. We’ve added one goalkeeper (Aaron Chapman), two full-backs/wing-backs (Colin Daniel & Jason Naismith), one central defender (Rhys Bennett), three central midfielders (Mark O’Hara, Alex Woodyard & Louis Reed), a winger-cum-forward (Siriki Dembele) and a striker (Matt Godden).

All the players will report back to the Mick George Training Academy this morning before heading off to Nottingham University for 2 days of intense medical testing. In a change to their recent pre-season regime where they usually head off to Europe inside the first week of returning to pre-season, Posh face four friendly matches in the space of a couple of weeks before heading to Portugal. They face two matches while they are away before returning back to the UK to face Championship side Bolton Wanderers. Further matches are expected to be arranged including one more at home before the League season kicks off against Bristol Rovers on the 4th August.
